“I think that he just had a lot of respect for kids and had a lot of respect for their talent and their intuition. I always felt so much freedom with him. I always felt like I was part of the collaborative process. It wasn’t that he was telling me what to do or he was talking down to me. It was always “What do you think?”, and “What do you think we should do for this scene?” And he trusted my ideas and he let me do that. And it was that kind of relationship where I felt like a part of the gang rather than an outsider looking in, that I think brings out such great performances in children.” - Joe Mazzello about working with Steven Spielberg
You show up and you’re just kind of taken a back a second, cause it’s so lifelike. It’s so real. You feel the energy from it. And you kind of don’t even want to get too close. But when you get more comfortable all you want to do is put your hands on it and touch and see “is this real?”, even the texture, the feeling of it, I just remember being blown away. - Joe Mazzello
